This light installation is part of a larger practise within Matthews’ work that explores nightclub culture and queering formal institutional spaces to feel more like a house party. The piece is a series of rotating disco lights that over time results in the viewer finding themself in a euphoric state. The work is choreographic in its proposal as it plays with time, space and energy.
field of dreams speaks to the role that light plays in creating environments for partying. However, rather than inviting the viewer into the space as a participant, the constellation of disco lights makes entry impossible, putting the audience in the role of spectator.
